Our story, so far.
Launched in 2024, Hewn Architectural Studio is a merger between two leading Bloomington-Normal firms: Workbench and Scharnett. Founded in 2016 by Kyle Glandon, Workbench quickly earned acclaim for innovative designs. Similarly, after 5 years alongside legendary architect Russel Francois, Paul Scharnett became the firm’s owner in 2019, adding his expertise and creative vision to a portfolio that dated back to Arthur Pillsbury.
Today, Hewn specializes in large-scale commercial, new development, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse projects from its headquarters in downtown Bloomington, IL. The larger, blended team positions Hewn to handle most any architectural project in-house from start to finish, generating new ideas through expanded collaboration and innovation.
The Studio is set for further growth, driven by a talented team committed to the vision that architecture shapes lasting experiences for communities.
